Oakland University is committed to maintaining an atmosphere of compliance as it relates to student-athlete/agent interactions. The Athletic Compliance Office is also dedicated to fostering a collaborative relationship between our institution, student-athletes, families, and agents to ensure our student-athletes maintain their amateur status, while still providing them with critical information they will need to pursue their professional endeavors.
Accordingly, we request any individual who serves as an agent, runner, financial planner, sports marketing representative, sports public relations firm manager, brand manager, or an employee of any of those described to register with the Athletic Compliance Office prior to contacting a student-athlete with remaining eligibility, or his/her family. The registration form can be found below.
Please complete and return to mtilashalski@oakland.edu. Contact includes any communication via text, social media, phone, mail, etc., as well as face-to-face interactions. For instances where a student-athlete or a family member requests information from, or to speak to an agent prior to exhausting eligibility, the agent/advisor must contact our office before responding to the student-athlete or family member.
Additionally, it is the expectation of the Oakland University Athletic Department that all agents/advisors will:
- Familiarize themselves with NCAA rules regarding amateurism and agents,
- Abide by NCAA and Oakland University rules and procedures regarding agents,
- Maintain agent certifications for relevant sport organizations (e.g. NBPA, MLBPA, etc.), and
- Act in the best interest of our student-athletes at all times.
Thank you for your cooperation and assistance with this policy. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
