AKRON, Ohio — The Golden Grizzlies won two events on day two at the Zippy Invitational inside the Ocasek Natatorium. The men's team remains in third place out of seven teams with 983.5 points while the Golden Grizzly women sit fourth out of 10 programs with 826.5 points.
Susan LaGrand made a statement on day two by winning the 400-yard IM (4:16.53) and placing second in the 100-yard backstroke (53.58). The closest swimmer to LaGrand in the 400-IM A-final finished four seconds behind.
Madelyn Cislo also earned a trip to the 400-IM A-final, where she took eighth (4:28.77).
Jordyn Shipps swam to fifth in the 100-yard butterfly A-final, touching the wall at 53.80. In the 100-yard breaststroke A-final,
Taylor Bailey finished sixth (1:02.89) and
Sydney McDowell was close behind in eighth (1:03.27).Â
Shipps,
Emily Aycock,
Sam Thiessen, and
Sohvi Nenonen swam to a fourth-place mark in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:29.16. LaGrand, McDowell, Shipps, and Ronja Riihehen took fifth overall in the 200-medley relay (1:40.85).Â
On the boards,
Ellie Chalifoux scored 258.40 in the three-meter dive finals, which was good for sixth place.Â
Marko Khotynetskyi paced the men's team with a victory in the 100-back A-final. He raced to a time of 47.08 in the win.Â
The Golden Grizzly men garnered a pair of top-five finishes in the 200-yard freestyle A-final, as
Rudy Aguilar finished runner-up (1:37.37) and
Jonas Cantrell was fourth overall (1:39.50).
Ben Davis also impressed with a seventh-place mark at 1:40.71 in the event.
Coming off a school record in the 50-yard freestyle on day one,
Christian Bart captured a second-place mark in the 100-breast A-final (52.90).
Mack Flowers tabbed a sixth-place mark in the 100-fly A-final (48.53).Â
The quartet of Khotynetskyi, Cantrell, Aguilar, and Davis finished second in the 800-free relay with a time of 6:35.35. Khotynetskyi, Bart, Flowers, and Aguilar collected a third-place mark in the 200-medley relay (1:28.47).Â
The Golden Grizzlies will wrap up action at the Zippy Invite tomorrow. Preliminary events will begin at 9 a.m.
