
ROCHESTER, Mich. – The
women's swim and dive team took on Eastern Michigan in a one-sided meet Friday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. Oakland won handily by a final tally of 169-131, taking first place in 11 of 16 events.
Susan LaGrand turned in the top performance of the night with four first place finishes. Her three solo first place finishes came in the 100 (54.91) and 200 (2:00.51) backstroke, as well as the 400 IM (4:25.14). She took first as a part of the 200 medley relay team of herself,
Sydney McDowell,
Sophia Davis and
Ronja Riihinen. Their time was 1:43.68.
Riihinen had another first place finish as part of another relay team. The 400 freestyle relay team of Riihinen,
Sam Thiessen,
Emily Aycock and
Jordyn Shipps finished first with a 3:28.93 time.
Like LaGrand, Shipps also took first in four separate events. Alongside her 400 freestyle relay victory, Shipps took first in the 100 butterfly (55.46), 200 freestyle (1:51.27) and 100 freestyle (51.22) races. The freshman had the second-most first place finishes on the team against Eastern.
Taylor Bailey had a couple first place finishes as well, taking first in the 100 and 200 breaststroke races, with respective times of 1:03.81 and 2:17.51.
The Swim and Dive teams will return to the pool together on Saturday, Nov 13 at noon in the Oakland Aquatic Center.
