
INDIANAPOLIS – Madison Jones has been named to Horizon League Softball All-Academic Team the league announced Friday.
Jones, a redshirt sophomore, led the Golden Grizzlies in batting average (.328), slugging percentage (.557), hits (20), runs (15) and RBI (11) during a shortened 2020 campaign.
The Romeo, Mich. native was named Horizon League Freshman of the Year and First Team selection in 2018.
During her freshmen season Jones earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Great Lakes All-Region Third Team honors, becoming the first Oakland player since 2006 to earn NFCA recognition.
As a freshman her slugging percentage, home runs, runs scored and total bases (118) are all Oakland single-season records, becoming the first Oakland player to have a slugging percentage above .700.
Jones is a health sciences major and boasts a 3.96 GPA.
To be eligible for the Horizon League All-Academic team, student-athletes must: participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests to be eligible for postseason awards. Student-athletes must have completed one year at the member school and passed 24 semester credit hours at that institution. Eligible candidates must have completed one academic year prior to the start of their athletic season and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale.
