
ROCHESTER, Mich - The Oakland swim and dive teams entered the pool with high amounts of energy, propelling both the men and women's team to a commanding win over the IUPUI Jaguars. The men racked up 209.5 points to IUPUI's 90.5 while the women collected 192.5 points to the IUPUI women's 107.5.
The Oakland men and women's 200 medley relay's jump started the meet with two back-to back first place finishes. The women's team of
Grace Shinske,
Sydney McDowell,
Julia Cook and
Katie Colwell finished with a time of 1:41.80 while the men's team of
Marko Khotynetskyi,
Christian Bart,
Mack Flowers and
Joey Mangner finished with a 1:28.73 time.
Susan LaGrand swam to three first palce finishes in the 200 free (1:49.84), the 100 back (53.75) and the 100 IM (56.12) Her time in the 100 back was good for an NCAA B cut.
Grace Shinske racked up a new Horizon League top time of her own as she won the 50 fly with a time of 25.21. Shinske was also a member of the first place 200 freestyle relay with teammates
Karlee Marsh,
Kirstyn Abbasse and
Katie Colwell.
On the men's side of the 50 fly,
Mack Flowers set a new league top time with a 22.14 finish.
Colton Phelps was dominant, recording three individual first place finishes in the 100 IM (50.27), the 100 fly (47.93) and the 100 back (49.01).
Christian Bart was the fastest man in the pool for the 50m breaststroke, setting a new league top time with 25.27. Bart also finished first in the 100 free recording a time of 45.42.
The distance squad showed their endurance as
Emily Aycock and
Micah DeJonge both set new Horizon League top times in the 1000 freestyle. Aycock recorded a time of 10:16.20 while DeJonge logged a 9:27.89. In addition,
Taylor Bailey added a league top time of her own in the 50 breast (28.79).
The swim and dive teams will return to the pool tomorrow at 1 p.m. to take on Cleveland State in their last league match-up before the Horizon League Championships. Prior to the meet the swim and dive seniors will be honored for their years of dedication to the program.
