
ROCHESTER, Mich. – Chris Curran has been named Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Training announced Director of Athletics,
Steve Waterfield. Curran will oversee the day-to-day operations of the sports medicine department and serve as the head athletic trainer for the men's basketball team.
"After a national search, I am very happy to welcome Chris to the Oakland University Athletics family," said Waterfield. "Chris' extensive experience, commitment to student-athlete welfare, and focus on enhancing current athletics training and sports medicine resources within the athletics department will positively impact our student-athletes and sports teams."
Prior to arriving to Oakland, Curran served as the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine at Tulane University where he managed Tulane's entire sports medicine department and served as the head athletic trainer for the Green Wave football team.

Before his time at Tulane, Curran spent 19 seasons as an assistant athletic trainer with the Detroit Lions where he played a key role in assisting with all rehabilitation, injury prevention and injury management. In addition, Curran managed all free agent physicals and oversaw the athletic training internship program.
Prior to his time working with the Lions, Curran made stops with the London Monarchs (NFL Europe), Eckerd College (St. Petersburg), Barcelona Dragons (NFL Europe) and the Minnesota Vikings. He also worked at the NFL Combine and New York Yankees Minor League Complex.
Curran earned a Master of Science degree in athletic training in 1995 from Indiana State and a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise and sports sciences in athletic training from the University of Florida in 1993.
Curran, a native of Ocala, Fla., and his wife Nisha have three children: Haley, Rhena and Maya, and reside in Novi, Mich.
