GOLDEN GRIZZLIES FINISH 26TH IN DI-AAA LEARFIELD DIRECTORS' CUP FINAL STANDINGS

July 5, 2016

Final Division I Standings

ROCHESTER, Mich. - For the second consecutive year, Oakland posted a top-30 finish in the DI-AAA Learfield Directors' Cup final standings, finishing 26th in 2015-16. The Golden Grizzlies' 99 points scored is the second most in the Division I era, behind last season's 100 points (T-18 finish).

"Earning another national ranking for overall athletics performance further stamps that our athletics organization continues to show progress and a foundation of multi-layered successes being established," said Director of Athletics Jeff Konya. "All the credit goes to the student-athletes, coaches and staff for putting in the effort and attitude that these levels of success demand."

Oakland won eight Horizon League titles this year in men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving, women's indoor track and field, and women's golf. The Golden Grizzlies had a men's swimmer, Devon Nowicki, earn All-America honors after finishing sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke at the NCAA Championships.

The Black and Gold scored 50 points after the fall season with men's and women's soccer both tallying 25 points each. Nowicki led the charge for the men's swimming and diving team as the Golden Grizzlies scored 44 points in men's swimming to jump Oakland up to 94 points through the winter standings. The women's golf program added five points in the spring with their first-ever league title and pushed Oakland's total to 99 points.

The Learfield Directors' Cup is an all-sports trophy that honors institutions that maintain a broad-based program by achieving success in both men's and women's sports in NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and two-year colleges/universities.

Each institution is awarded points in a pre-determined number of sports for men and women. For Division I, points are awarded in 20 intercollegiate sports to schools that advance to either the postseason championships.

The Golden Grizzlies captured back-to-back McCafferty Trophies with a Horizon League record 62 points scored. Oakland finished atop the men's and women's sports standings for the second straight year.
