ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland defeated Detroit for the second consecutive season in the Metro Series, driven by Trinity Transportation, by a final series score of 27-5. The Golden Grizzlies defeated or finished ahead of the Titans in 14 of 18 competitions in the rivalry.
Oakland's series victory was highlighted by a pair of thrilling wins in men's basketball, the first coming on the road 86-82, and the second coming in front of the largest crowd in O'rena history as the Golden Grizzlies won 108-97.
Series wins began for Oakland with a 2-0 win in men's soccer on Oct. 21 followed by a pair of Horizon League championships by men's and women's cross country 10 days later. The Black and Gold also went a perfect 3-0 in competitions at Detroit, with men's and women's basketball each earning wins at Calihan Hall as well as women's tennis winning 5-2 at the Titan Tennis Courts. Other Oakland points earned in the series came from men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field, men's and women's golf and women's soccer.
Points are awarded based on the results of each sport Oakland and Detroit compete in, with head-to-head meetings being worth two points for each contest or championship, and ties resulting in one point each. Points are awarded in head-to-head meetings regardless of when it occurs (regular season and postseason). For men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, men's and women's indoor/outdoor track and field, two points are awarded to the team that finishes higher at the Horizon League Championships. In an event of a series tie, the team that won the previous year retains possession of the trophy.
