2015 Spring Academic All-League Selections


INDIANAPOLIS - Honoring student-athletes for their success both in competition and in the classroom, the Horizon League announced its 2015 Spring Academic All-League Teams on Wednesday. A total of 90 student-athletes from eight spring sports were honored in balloting by the League's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors.

Oakland had 16 selections, two behind leader Youngstown State, and led the Horizon League with the most honorees in softball with four - Sara Cupp, Sarah Hartley, Courtnee Johnson and Jackie Kisman. Other selections included baseball players Robby Enslen and Spencer Marentette while Andrew Bowman, David Koponen and Chris Scott were selected from the men's outdoor track and field team. Ashley Burr, Jenae Curley, Miranda Haas and Serena San Cartier represented the women's outdoor track and field team while men's golfers Evan Bowser and Jacob Johnson and women's golfer Alyssa Albright rounded out Oakland's selections.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.

2015 Oakland Spring Academic All-League Members

Baseball

Robby Enslen| SR | 3.21 | Communication
*Selected to the All-Horizon League second team; third-straight year earning an all-league honor.
*Tied for the league-high with 11 doubles in conference games, while hitting a team-best .317 and driving in 17 runs.
*Ranks in the top-10 in Oakland program history in hits, at-bats, doubles, RBIs and games played.
*Named Preseason Player of the Year; held school record 32-game hitting streak.

Spencer Marentette| SR | 3.97 | Creative Writing
*Awarded Horizon League's Postgraduate Scholarship for 2015
*Selected as recipient of Alfred G. Wilson Award - The award is the most prestigious honor Oakland University presents to students
*Two-time Academic All-League Selection
*Hit .229 with three doubles, scored 10 runs and drove in three runs

Softball

Sara Cupp | GR | 3.89 | Biology
*2015 Capital One Academic All-America Third Team selection and 2015 Capital One Academic All-District V Softball First-Team selection
*All-Horizon League First-Team selection; Horizon League All-Tournament Team; Tournament MVP and Batting Champion; College Sports Madness Horizon All-Conference First-Team selection
*Set the all-time single season school record in RBI (44), slugging percentage (.695) and walks (26) while ranking second in home runs (10) and doubles (13).
*Belted a three-run home run in the sixth inning lifting Oakland to a 7-3 win over Wright State to secure Oakland's first Horizon League Championship in program history and third automatic NCAA bid since 2003.
*Horizon League Player of the Week (March 30); College Sports Madness Horizon League Softball Player of the Week (Apr. 7)

Sarah Hartley | JR | 3.62 | Health Sciences
*Named to All-Horizon League Second-Team and College Sports Madness Horizon All-Conference First-Team selection.
*Horizon League All-Tournament Team selection helping Oakland to first Horizon League Championship in program history with third automatic NCAA bid since 2003.
*Hit walk-off home run against Wright State to give Oakland a share of the program's first Horizon League regular season title
 Â  Set the all-time single season school record in home runs (10), run scored (41) and total bases (112) while ranking second in RBI (40) and third in triples (5).
*Led Horizon League statistically in triples (5), second in total bases (111), tie for second in stolen bases (21), tie for third in home runs (11) and runs scored (41) and RBI (39).
*Horizon League Player of the Week (Feb. 23)

Courtnee Johnson | SR | 3.50 | Counseling
*All-Horizon League First-Team selection and Horizon League Tournament Defensive MVP.
*College Sports Madness Horizon All-Conference First-Team selection.
*Ranks fourth all-time in single season school record in home runs (8) and RBI (31).
*Second on the team in hitting (.371), Second in Horizon League statistically in sacrifice flies (3); hit home run against Pittsburgh in NCAA Tournament.

Jackie Kisman | SR | 3.77 | Elementary Education
*All-Horizon League Second-Team selection.
*Horizon League All-Tournament Team selection helping Oakland to first Horizon League Championship in program history and third automatic NCAA bid since 2003.
*Set the all-time single season school record in at bats (197), ranked second in hits (70) and third in runs scored (33).
*Led Horizon League statistically in at bats (190), third in hits (69) and plate appearances (199).

Men's Outdoor Track and Field

Andrew Bowman | SO | 3.46 | Environmental Sciences
*2014 Fall Academic All-League selection in cross country.
*Placed second in the 5000m (15:04.25) and third in the 3000m steeplechase (9:23.87) at the 2015 Horizon League Outdoor Championships.
*Posted 3000m steeplechase school record (9:06.52) to finish second at the North Central College Gregory Final Qualifier Meet.
*Set dual meet 2000m steeplechase record (6:09.23) to claim title at the Detroit Dual Meet. Also won 5000m (15:03.85) at the Golden Grizzly Duals.
*Won 3000m steeplechase (9:14.07) at the Gibson Invitational.

David Koponen| SR | 3.80 | Environmental Sciences
*2014 Spring Academic All-League selection
*Claimed the 800m crown (1:53.80) at the 2015 Horizon League Outdoor Championships.
*Also won the 800m at the Golden Grizzly Duals (1:54.96) and at the Detroit Dual Meet (1:58.22).
*Set 800m PR (1:51.90) to win event at the Toledo Open.
*Finished second at the 800m (1:53.13) at the Gibson Invitational.

Chris Scott| SR | 3.57 | Health Sciences
*2014 Spring Academic All-League selection.
*Finished second in 800m (1:53.81) at the 2015 Horizon League Outdoor Championships.
*Finished third in the 800m (1:54.55) at the Gibson Invitational.
*Placed fourth in the 1500m (4:06.78) and ran anchor helping 4x400 relay team to finish second at the Golden Grizzly Duals.

Women's Track and Field

Ashley Burr| SO | 3.57 | Heath Sciences
*Won 5000m title (18:00.17) and finished second in the 10,000m (37:31.57) at the 2015 Horizon League Outdoor Championships.
*Won the 1500m (4:53.21) and 3000m (10:12.24) at the Detroit Duals.
*Finished first in the 5000m (17:28.12) at the Golden Grizzly Duals.
*Placed third in 5000m (17:36.58) at the Gibson Invitational.

Jenae Curley| SR | 3.81 | Biology
*Made the podium finishing sixth in the 5000m (18:15.48) at 2015 Horizon League Outdoor Championships
*Finished second in the 5000m (17:51.46) at the Golden Grizzly Duals.

Miranda Haas| JR | 3.91 | Biology
*Claimed the 3000m steeplechase title (11:03.16) and made the podium finishing fourth in the 5000m (18:11.17) at 2015 Horizon League Outdoor Championships.
*Won the 2000m steeplechase title (7:14.03) at the Detroit Duals.
*Finished first in the 3000m steeplechase (10:57.37) at the Golden Grizzly Duals.

Serena San Cartier| SR | 4.00 | Psychology
*2014 Spring Academic All-League selection.
*Qualified for the 2015 NCAA Outdoor East Preliminary by breaking the 100m hurdles school record (13.55) at the Hillsdale Last Chance Classic becoming the first in program history to qualify for this event.
*Repeated as 100m hurdles champion (14.04) at the 2015 Horizon League Outdoor Championships, also finished third in the 200m (25.26).
*Claimed 100m hurdles titles at the Detroit Dual (14.23) and Golden Grizzly Duals (14.06) and finished second at Gibson Invitational (14.08). Also won *200m (26.24) at Detroit Dual.
*Ran first leg of 4X100 relay team that finished third (46.49) at the 2015 Horizon League Outdoor Championships.

Men's Golf

Evan Bowser| JR | 3.40 | General Management
*Won Horizon League Championship on the second playoff hole with a 220 (+4), becoming first Oakland player since 2005 to win league tournament.
*Finished T33 at the NCAA Noblesville Regional with a 224 (+8).
*Selected to second-straight All-Horizon League Team with third-best stroke average in the league at 73.04.
*Named Academic All-Horizon League last season.

Jacob Johnson| SO | 3.76 | Pre-Business Administration
*Earned Horizon League All-Tournament Team honors at the league championship.
*Finished T7 with a 228 (+12) at the Horizon League Championship.
*Finished with 76.20 stroke average.

Women's Golf

Alyssa Albright| JR | 3.73 | Journalism
*All-Horizon League selection this season.
*Finished sixth in the Horizon League with a 78.79 stroke average.
*Placed T8 at Horizon League Championship with a 237, the 15th best conference championship score in program history.
*Shot 1-over-par 73 at GCU Invitational, the 17th lowest round under par in program history.
