ROCHESTER, Mich. - Miranda Haas claimed the 3000m steeplechase title with a time of 11:03.16 while Gino Vitella placed second in the shot put with a throw of 56 feet, 4.0 inches on the second day of competition at the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at the Oakland Track and Field Facility on Saturday. Aaron Davis also broke Jeff Arirguzo's 200m dash school record with a time of 21.47 in the preliminaries as both runners qualified for the finals.
Andrew Bowman (9:23.87), George O'Conner (9:32.55) and Matt Ritter (9:39.69) all made podium in the men's 3000m steeplechase finishing third, fourth and fifth respectively. Megan Simientowski also made the podium finishing sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 10 feet, 6.0 inches. Meagan Joiner finished fifth with 3734 points in the Heptathlon with Matthew Jordan also placing sixth in the long jump at 21 feet, 10 inches.
Sydney Sterling was the top qualifier in the 400m with a time of 56.92 along with Serena San Cartier who paced the 100m hurdles preliminaries at 14.06. Sarah Moen and Laura Johnston also qualified for the finals finishing fifth and seventh.
The third and final day of competition begins on Sunday, May 3 at 10 a.m. with the men's high jump and women's triple and high jump events.
