INDIANAPOLIS- Led by a perfect multi-year score from the women’s basketball, Oakland Athletics excelled in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) for the 2012-13 season, released by the NCAA this week. Baseball (979), men's outdoor track and field (970), women's basketball (1,000) and women's golf (991) all recorded multi-year scores higher than the national average within their respective sports.
The women's basketball was honored last week with public recognition from the NCAA as its APR was among the top-10 percent in the nation for the sport.
While teams are judged on multi-year APR, which takes into account the past four academic years, 10 teams posted a perfect APR for 2012-13. Baseball, men's basketball, men's golf, men's outdoor track and field, women's cross country, women's golf, women's tennis, women's indoor track and field and women's outdoor track and field all joined women's basketball with perfect APR scores of 1,000 for the previous academic year.
Teams must post a multi-year APR above 930 or a 940 average over the most recent two years in order to compete in the 2014-15 postseason. The benchmark for penalties rose from 900 to 930 this season in an effort by the NCAA to increase the academic progress and graduation of all its student-athletes.
