OAKLAND SUMMER NOTEBOOK

The athletic seasons may have ended in May, but many Golden Grizzlies are shining on different summer teams and in international events. Erika Polidori helped Canada make the Bronze medal game in the World Cup of Softball, Cameron Nelson won a tournament in the United Kingdom, and Karin Tomeckova set Slovakian national records in the Grand Prix.

Here is a full list of some top accomplishments for Oakland student-athletes this summer:
â-ª Polidori (softball) scored the game-winning run in a 2-1 victory over eventual World Cup champion Japan in pool play
â-ª Travis Bader (men's basketball) was invited to compete in the NIKE Skills Academy for the top 20 wings in the country with NBA standout Kevin Durant
â-ª Tomeckova (women's swimming) set national records in 100- and 200-meter backstroke events, recording World Championship 'B' cuts with times of 1:02.98 and 2:15.38
â-ª Nelson (men's golf) shot 286 (74-73-70-69) to win the Royal Dornoch Club Championship
â-ª Men's Track and Field standouts Gino Vitella and Michael Cox each qualified for the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships; Vitella finished 8th in the shot put (57-7.75) and Cox ended 11th in the 10,000 meters (33:40.54)
â-ª Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach Russ Cunningham shot 147 (73-74) at the 102nd Michigan Amateur to finish stroke play in T10; He won 3 matches to advance to the Final 8
â-ª Brett Impemba (baseball) hit a team-best .439 for the Park City Rangers in the Walter Johnson League; RHP Tim Koons (baseball) went 2-2 with a 1.85 ERA for the Petersburg Generals in the Coast Plain League
â-ª Miche'le Lipari (men's soccer) helped lead the Detroit Football Club to an undefeated regular season, scoring 3 goals and tallying 1 assist
â-ª Evan Bowser (men's golf) qualified for his second consecutive U.S. Amateur Golf Championship by shooting back-to-back rounds of 69 at the U.S. Amateur qualifier
