ROCHESTER, Mich. - A new era begins today for Oakland University athletics as the Golden Grizzlies are officially members of the Horizon League. Oakland is the ninth member and will take on Valparaiso in the first-ever league match on Sept. 6th.

"The Horizon League will offer up high level competition with outstanding institutions," said Director of Athletics Tracy Huth. "Our focus will not change with our student-athletes, graduates and champions will remain our ultimate goal. We believe we are and continue to be a leader in developing a dynamic campus life."

The Golden Grizzlies led The Summit League for eight consecutive years (2006-13) in Academic Honor Roll selections. Oakland won 73 Summit League championships and made 37 NCAA appearances in 14 seasons of competition.

Oakland will host Golden Grizzlies Fan Fest on July 16th inside the O'rena at 7 p.m. The event will be free admission and will have free food, giveaways and reveil all the schedules for the 2013-14 seasons.
