Oakland Finishes Fourth in Commissioner's Cup Standings

ELMHURST, Ill. - Oakland earned a fourth-place finish in the 2012-13 Summit League Commissioner's Cup, announced by the league office on Tuesday. The Oakland men finished tied for third in the race for the Dr. William Steinbrecher Men's All-Sports Award and the OU women's teams were sixth in their efforts for the Dr. Helen Smiley Women's All-Sports Award standings.

Oakland earned 77.5 points towards the Commissioner's Cup, which awards points based on a team's regular season finish and the number of Summit League schools that participate in that sport. South Dakota State claimed the cup by earning 94.5 points. North Dakota State was second with 87.0 points and South Dakota placed third with 78.5 points.

The men's soccer team and men's swimming and diving team each won Summit League Championships and led the Golden Grizzlies to 33.0 points and the third-place tie with Kansas City. The baseball team earned its second-straight Summit League Championship appearance by finishing third in the regular season standings, while the men's basketball team and men's cross country team each earned fourth-place finishes. South Dakota State captured the men's all-sport award with 45.5 points.

On the women's side, the soccer team won both the regular season and tournament titles on route to defeating Ohio State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament while the swimming and diving team won its 14th consecutive league title to lead OU to a sixth-place finish with 44.5 points. The volleyball team finished tied for third and appeared in its second consecutive league tournament and the cross country team finished fourth at the league meet. North Dakota State won the women's all-sport title with 57.5 points.
