Oakland Athletics wishes all its fans, friends and alumni a safe and happy New Year. As the calendar moves into 2014, OUgrizzlies.com takes a look back at some of the top performances of 2013.
1 - Officially became a member of the Horizon League on July 1st.
1:55.35 - Sophomore Karin Tomeckova set this Horizon League women's swimming record time at the EMU Invitational on Dec. 6th.
2 - Seniors Travis Bader (4.2 3-pointers per game) and Duke Mondy (3.03 steals per game) became the first-ever tandem to lead the NCAA in a statistical category.
2.1 - Senior Kassandra Komma recorded two holes-in-one on the front nine of the R&S Sharf Golf Course on May 1st.
3.20 - Student-Athlete grade point average for the second straight fall semester.
5 - The jersey number of senior Nick Kristock who was named SENIOR CLASS AWARD winner, given to the nation's most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I men's soccer.
5.0 - Consecutive shutouts for the women's soccer team, setting a new school record. The Golden Grizzlies advanced to the Horizon League Championship game, falling in the final seconds to top-seeded Milwaukee, 4-3.
5.0.1 - Women's tennis posted a program-best fifth-place finish in its final season inside The Summit League.
7 - The jersey number of senior softball player Erika Polidori who played with the Canadian National Team at the U.S. World Cup of Softball VIII (July 11-14) in Oklahoma City, Okla., and the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship (July 16-22) in Surrey, British Columbia.
9 - Jeff Tungate became the ninth head coach for the women's basketball program.
14 - Seasons inside The Summit League, capturing 73 championships, including 14 straight by the men's and women's swimming and diving programs.
15 - League wins for the baseball team, matching the record set in 2012.
29 - 3-pointers needed by Travis Bader to break the all-time NCAA record.
30 - Years that Greg Kampe has coached the men's basketball program. Kampe's tenure is the third longest in Division I behind Syracuse's Jim Boeheim (38 years) and Duke's Mike Krzyzewski (34 years).
35 - Seasons swimming and diving coach Pete Hovland has been at the helm.
50 - Years of intercollegiate athletics at Oakland University (2013-14).
53 - A school record for service aces by freshman volleyball player Melissa Deatsch.
55 - feet, 5.75 inches is the new indoor school record for the shot put after sophomore Gino Vitella recorded that mark at the IPFW Mastodon Opener on Dec. 7th.
73.45 - Stroke average posted by Evan Bowser in his freshman season, 7th-best in school history. He became the first freshman to win two tournaments and qualified for the last two U.S. Amateur Championships (2012, '13).
81 - Graduation Percent Rate for student-athletes, above the national average. Men's Basketball jumped up to 82 percent, while women's basketball moved to 92 percent. The men's basketball team is the third-highest in the state, only behind Western Michigan (100%) and Michigan State (89%).
344.47 - New 3-meter diving school record set by junior Tricia Grant against Wayne State on Nov. 15th.
1,003 - Digs that Taylor Humm has accumulated in three seasons.
3,000 - Hours of community service performed by student-athletes last year, including events such as the Brooksie Way, Village kick-off for the Salvation Army, OU Reading Program at elementary schools, Mentoring at Detroit Schools and Docs and Jocks Program.
