NCAA GSR/FGR Rates
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland University student-athlete graduation rates continue to stay above 80 percent, according to the Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and Federal Graduation Rate (FGR) released by the NCAA on Thursday. The men's and women's basketball teams increased up to 82 and 92 percent, respectively.
"We are pleased to have maintained a GSR above 80 percent and at the national average," said Director of Athletics Tracy Huth. "The consistency of this success since the inception of the GSR indicates a strong effort, clear understanding and desire by our student-athletes, coaches and staff as to the importance of academic achievement. The commitment to this achievement and the ultimate goal to have our student-athletes earn their degree will continue to be our number one priority. As the student-athletes at Oakland continue to maintain graduation rates above the institutional average, the University community can take pride in the commitment and success of these students."
The GSR measures student-athletes that enter schools on scholarship between 2003-04 and 2006-07. The Golden Grizzlies sit right on the national average of 81 percent, an all-time high for the NCAA.
Oakland's men's basketball team improved two percentage points and ranks third in the state of Michigan. Western Michigan is at 100 percent, followed by Michigan State (89%), Oakland (82%), Michigan (75%), Eastern Michigan (60%), Detroit (55%) and Central Michigan (54%). Among Horizon League schools, the Golden Grizzlies rank third behind Green Bay (100%) and Cleveland State (83%).
The women's swimming and diving program produced the highest GSR at 94 percent for the Golden Grizzlies.
"It is encouraging to see many of our teams make an improvement in the GSR," said Huth. "Our intention, and expectation, is that Oakland Athletics will improve upon the current success. As such, it will be vital that we continue to provide the support necessary to produce Graduates and Champions at Oakland University."
