ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's and women's track and field teams had one of their most successful seasons in school history as the Golden Grizzlies set 20 school records during the indoor and outdoor seasons. The year was highlighted by Micah Jones winning Oakland's first individual event at The Summit League Outdoor Championship in the long jump. She is the first Oakland athlete to win a league event in either the indoor or outdoor seasons.
2012 Indoor Track and Field Highlights
â-ª Micah Jones earned a runner-up finish and set the school record in the long jump with a jump of 19 feet 0.75 inches at the Summit League Championships
â-ª Micah Jones also finished sixth in the high jump at the league championship meet and set the school record in the high jump at the GVSU Holiday Open
â-ª Niklas Rippon finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles at the league meet
â-ª Ryan Balzer broke the school record in the heptathlon to earn an eighth-place finish at the league meet
â-ª The 4x400-meter relay team of Derrek Williams, Kyle Wilson, Alex Katona and Spencer Britt finished third at The Summit League Championships
â-ª The Distance Medley team of Katona, Wilson, Britt and David Magnotte earned a seventh-place finish at the league meet
â-ª Britt set the school record in the 600-meter run at the Mike Lints Alumni Open
â-ª Breanna Peabody and Serena San Cartier earned top-eight finished in the 60-meter hurdles at the league meet
â-ª Shaunte Roberts and Desiree Pettiford set school records in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash events, respectively, at the GVSU Big Meet
â-ª Lia Jones broke the school record in the 3,000-meter run at the Youngstown State National Invite
â-ª Katelynne Hartman and Shannon Getchen set school records in the shot put and weight throw during the season, respectively
