LONDON - Former Oakland swimmer Scott Dickens finished 16th in the 200-meter breaststroke earlier today at the London 2012 Olympics. Dickens reached the semi-finals of the event this morning after winning his preliminary heat with a time of 2:10.95.

Earlier in the games, Dickens became the first Canadian swimmer to ever break the one-minute barrier in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 59.85 during the preliminary heats, good for a second-place finish in the heat and earned a spot in the semi-finals. Dickens will compete in one more event during the meet as he is a member of the Canadian 4x100-meter medley relay team that competes in the preliminary heats on Friday for a chance to win a medal the next day.

Dickens is competing in his second Olympic Games, swimming for Canada in the Athens 2004 Olympics in the 100-breast. He is a former Summit League Swimmer of the Year and is a three-time individual Summit League champion and a member of four championship relay teams.
