ELMHURST, Ill. âˆ' With the 2009-10 academic year in the books, The Summit League has announced its Academic All-League teams for the winter and spring seasons. A total of 1,017 Summit League student-athletes from baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track & field have been honored for their academic excellence. Of the 1,017 selections, a total of 449 were recognized as Distinguished Scholars.

South Dakota State led the way with a league-best 154 selections to the Academic All-Summit League squad, while Oakland and Western Illinois had 140 and 124 honorees, respectively. Southern Utah landed 104 student-athletes on the list with North Dakota State having 92 recipients. IPFW had 79 selections, ahead of Oral Roberts' 71 and UMKC's 67. Centenary and IUPUI each had 64 honorees on the list. Associate members South Dakota and Eastern Illinois had 34 and 24 swimming & diving student-athletes recognized for their academic achievements, respectively. Of the 1,017 student-athletes that were honored, 141 posted perfect 4.00 grade-point averages.

Oakland University led The Summit League with 202 total student-athletes honored for their academic achievements throughout the course of both semesters and marks the third consecutive year the Golden Grizzlies have placed 200 student-athletes on the All-Academic team.

In order to be selected to the Academic All-Summit League Team, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 or better grade-point average (GPA) in the semester in which they compete and must use a year of eligibility. In order to be named a Distinguished Scholar, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.60 GPA.
