The Oakland Varsity Association (Varsity O) officially launched On April 23rd with the induction of the first class comprised of this year's graduating seniors. Director of Athletics and alumni-athlete Tracy Huth presented each senior athlete with a Varsity O pin and asked the graduates to continue their involvement with Oakland athletics as alumni.
To coincide with the ceremony, over 1,700 former student-athletes were sent a membership card and a letter signed by all 11 of the varsity head coaches welcoming them to the Varsity O. At this year's Homecoming Weekend, all former varsity athletes will be invited back for the first-ever All Sport Reunion.
"Our goal is to welcome back and re-engage every athlete who has worn the black and gold for Oakland," said Huth. "The Oakland Varsity Association will help bridge the gap between former and current Graduates and Champions and we look forward to getting everyone, from all eras, back on campus."
