ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland University athletic department held its annual Graduates and Champions banquet on Friday night in the Athletics Center O'Rena. The department honores its seniors and student-athlete performances over the course of the 2007-08 seasons.
"Every year our student-athletes do a tremendous job representing Oakland University on and off the field," said Director of Atheltics Tracy Huth. "We had an all-time high 58 percent of our student-athletes achieve a 3.00 grade point average or higher in the fall and sixty-one earn Academic All-Summit League honors. Not only have we been successful in the classroom, but we continue to lead The Summit League Commissioner's Cup Standings, given to the top overall athletic program in the conference."
Along with the four team Summit League championships in men's soccer, women's soccer, men's swimming and diving, and women's swimming and diving, the Golden Grizzlies honored the two Wilson Award winners, Nicole Piggot and Chris Fecek (story).
Additionally, Oakland???s men's golf and women???s basketball teams were recognized for their academic achievements as the men???s and women???s teams with the highest grade point averages.
