Elmhurst, Ill. (June 13, 2007) ???C On the strength of nine top-three finishes during the 2006-07 school year, Oakland University finished fourth in the Mid-Continent Conference Commissioner???s Cup standings. The award is presented annually to the school that collects the most points awarded based on teams finishes in conference sponsored sports. Oakland finished with 65 points, just one and a half points behind Valparaiso for third-place. Oral Roberts won the Cup with a total of 92.5 points. The Golden Grizzlies finished third in the Dr. Helen Smiley Women???s All Sports standings and fourth in the Dr. William Steinbrecher Men???s All Sports standings. Led by first-place finished in women???s basketball and women???s swimming and diving, Oakland garnered 40 points on the women???s side of the ledger. The Golden Grizzlies also picked up second-place finishes from soccer and golf on the women???s side while also claiming a third-place finish in softball. On the men???s side Oakland totaled 25 points led by a first-place finish for the swimming and diving team. The Golden Grizzlies got second-place finishes from the cross country and men???s basketball squads as well.
