There were a total of 204 student-athletes that attained at least a 3.00 GPA during the fall semester. ROCHESTER, Mich. ???C The Oakland University Athletic Department announced this afternoon that 204 student-athletes attained at least a 3.0 grade point average, and 12 of the 18 intercollegiate sports had team grade point average of 3.00 or better. The women???s basketball team led the way with a team GPA of 3.44, while women???s golf finished second with a team GPA of 3.30.
???The athletic department is very pleased that over 50 percent of our student-athletes were over a 3.0 for the term,??? said athletics director Tracy Huth. ???They have proven that they can excel in the classroom and in athletic competition, which is very important and one of the reasons Oakland University is a unique place.???
The men???s and women???s soccer teams claimed Summit League Championships this past fall, with men???s cross country finishing runner-up for the Golden Grizzlies. Oakland leads the current Commissioner???s Cup standings after fall competition, awarded to the school with the top all-around athletic department via competition.
Junior Jessica Boyle led the way with a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall after earning Summit League Tournament Most Valuable Player honors and leading the Grizzlies back to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. Junior Sara Gerhardt (women???s cross country and track) also attained a 4.0, along with sophomore Laura Kwiatkowski (women???s golf).
