ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland University along with the Athletic Department welcomed the 2007-08 Detroit Pistons on Thursday night for an open practice and scrimmage. The Athletics Center O'Rena was filled with over 4,000 fans and students to observe the Pistons before they open the season and prizes were won before the start of the scrimmage.
"It was a great way to kickstart the upcoming 2007-08 basketball season here at Oakland University," said Athletics Director Tracy Huth. "It was an electric atmosphere and we hope that students come out and support what should be a great season of basketball for our men's and women's basketball programs this season, starting with Midnight Madnezz next Friday, Oct. 12."
Several Oakland students won prizes that included $500 gift certificates for Pistons' merchandise and any students that presented a student ID were given a ticket for Monday night's preseason game between the Pistons and Miami Heat at the Palace of Auburn Hills. One lucky OU student played a game of HORSE with Pistons head coach Flip Saunders. The Pistons' Automotion dance girls put on a performance for the crowd prior to the scrimmage.
