Hafeli, Wiese Named Lepley Senior Scholar Athletes

Rochester, Mich. (Apr. 21, 2006) ???C Seniors Anne Hafeli (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) of Oakland???s women???s basketball team and Jeff Wiese (Omaha, Neb.) of the men???s soccer team and were named the 2005-06 recipients of the Hollie Lepley Senior Scholar Athlete Awards the Oakland University athletics department announced. The award recognizes the top senior scholar athletes for overall excellence in academic achievement, athletic achievement and service activities. The awards are named in honor of the founder of Oakland University athletics, Hollie Lepley. The awards exemplify his commitment to education, human service and his quality of leadership and personal character. A four-time letterwinner for the Golden Grizzlies, Hafeli was named the Mid-Con Tournament MVP after leading Oakland to its second tournament title in March, averaging 20.3 points and 7.0 rebounds in OU???s three-game sweep to the title and its second NCAA Tournament berth. A two-time All-Mid-Con selection, Hafeli finished her senior season as OU???s second leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 14.1 points and 5.5 boards a game. The marketing major finished her career as Oakland???s No. 8 all-time leading scorer with 1,472 points and was a three-time Academic All-Mid-Con selection. A four-year starter in goal for Oakland???s soccer team, Wiese helped lead the Golden Grizzlies to three Mid-Con regular season titles and one conference tournament championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament during his career. The Mid-Con Defensive Player of the Year in each of the last two seasons, he is the second OU soccer player to earn All-Mid-Con honors four times. A financial information systems major, Wiese was a three-time Academic All-Mid-Con player as well as a three-time NSCAA Great Lakes All-Region selection. He finished his OU career as the school???s all-time leader in saves with 340.
