Rochester, Mich. (May 6, 2005) ???C Oakland University???s athletics department will add two more sports in the 2005-06 school year with the addition of men???s and women???s outdoor track the department has announced. The addition of the two sports will bring the total offered at Oakland to 16. Both sports will compete in the Mid-Continent Conference and will be eligible for conference championships immediately. Paul Rice, the current head coach of the school???s cross country teams, will also head up the track programs. ???In answer to the growing needs and interests of our student body we have decided to add outdoor track for both men and women to our intercollegiate program at Oakland,??? said director of athletics Jack Mehl. ???We are happy to see our program grow and are looking forward to the first competitions by our new teams beginning in 2006.???
