Rochester, Mich. (May 24, 2005) ???C Oakland University???s Athletics Department has announced the recipients of the Golden Grizzlies Excellence in Academics awards for the Winter 2005 semester. Each term during the academic year the department recognizes those student-athletes that have excelled academically. Student-athletes who meet the criteria of a minimum 3.0 GPA with a minimum of 12 credit hours taken are named to the list. For the Winter 2005 term a total of 128 student-athletes representing all 14 varsity teams attained the Golden Grizzlies Excellence in Academics honor. Top academic honors among female student-athletes went to
Laura Cowham (Caledonia, Mich.; Elementary Education) of the soccer team and
Katie O???Donnell (Troy, Mich.; Undecided) of the golf team, both of whom attained perfect 4.0 GPAs. For the men top honors went to
Chris Fecek (Rochester Hills, Mich.; Biology) and
David Elliott (Algonac, Mich.; General Studies), both of the cross country team, who tallied GPAs of 3.90. In addition,

Natalie Webb (Glennwood, Ill.; Accounting/Softball) all attained GPAs over a 3.9. Among Oakland???s teams, the Golden Grizzly women???s golf squad posted the top combined GPA of 3.37. They were followed by women???s soccer (3.32), women???s swimming and diving (3.32) and men???s golf (3.31). Of OU???s 14 teams, nine achieved a 3.0 or better, including seven of the eight women???s teams.
