Rochester, Mich. (Aug. 30, 2004) ???C Oakland University???s athletics department will be playing host to a pair of events this week as part of the Welcome Week activities that kick off the new school year at Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies will host Meijer Madnezz on Tuesday, Aug. 31 from 5-7 p.m. at the Meijer store on Brown Road in Auburn Hills and the Golden Grizzlies FunFest on Thursday, Sept. 2 from 4-6 p.m. at the Hamlin Courtyard on the OU campus. This will the second annual Meijer Madnezz, an event that is a joint effort between the athletics department and Meijer to promote Golden Grizzly athletics to area residents. Oakland student-athletes, coaches, staff, dance team, pep band and mascot are all scheduled to attend the event. There will be free food and drinks and a chance to win an OU basketball season ticket package. Meijer, a Premier Golden Grizzlies sponsor, is offering all OU students, faculty and staff, a 10-percent discount on all general merchandise with a valid Oakland ID during Welcome Week (Aug. 27 - Sept. 4). This will be the third annual FunFest, an event that allows the OU students a chance to meet their fellow student-athletes and athletic department staff. Like the Meijer Madnezz event, the OU pep band, Images dance team, the OU cheer team and the 'Grizz' will all be in attendance. With the success of last year???s event and the addition of the dance team and pep band to this year???s lineup, the festivities have been moved to the Hamlin Courtyard on the OU campus. The event, sponsored by Big Buck Brewery, GFS Marketplace, AAA, and T-Mobile will have free food and drink and OU merchandise for sale. Radio station WDFN will also be broadcasting live from the event.
