Rochester, Mich. (Apr. 23, 2004) ???C Four Oakland University student-athletes were honored with various awards recently by the school???s Department of Accounting and Finance. The four, juniors
Matt Connor (East Lansing) and
Ryan Rzepka (Novi, Mich.) of men???s soccer; senior
Kristie Kieffer (Sterling Heights, Mich.) of women???s cross country; and junior
Matt Pullen (Grand Rapids, Mich.) of men???s golf were all honored at the department???s student awards banquet. Connor, who carries a 3.74 GPA as an accounting major, was awarded with the Dicron Tafralian Merit Scholarship. A defender on the soccer team, he is a member of the national honorary accounting society, Beta Alpha Psi, and started every game for the soccer team, scoring one goal and one assist for the Golden Grizzlies. Also a member of Beta Alpha Psi, Pullen was awarded the Dr. Wendel Schindele Scholarship. He had a pair of top-10 finishes in golf this season and wound up fifth on the team with his stroke average of 76.65. Pullen, who carries a 3.83 GPA as an accounting major, is also a member of the OU Student Athletic Advisory Council. Rzepka and Kieffer were both honored with the Beta Alpha Psi Student Excellence Award. Kieffer had one of the most successful cross country season???s ever for a Golden Grizzly runner as she named the Mid-Con cross country Athlete of the Year and became Oakland???s first cross country runner to participate at the Division I NCAA Championships. Rzepka was a first team All-Mid-Con player for the Golden Grizzlies and led all defenders with four goals and five assists. He also became the first Oakland Division I men???s soccer player to earn Academic All-America honors.
