Rochester, Mich. (Jan. 20, 2004) ???C Oakland University???s Athletics Department has announced the recipients of the Golden Grizzlies Excellence in Academics awards for the Fall 2003 semester. Each term during the academic year the department recognizes those student-athletes that have excelled academically. Student-athletes who meet the criteria of a minimum 3.0 GPA with a minimum of 12 credit hours taken are named to the list. For the Fall 2003 term a total of 148 student-athletes representing all 14 varsity teams attained the Golden Grizzlies Excellence in Academics honor. Top academic honors among female student-athletes went to junior Ashley Holenka (Shadyside, Ohio; Elementary Education) and freshman Natalie Webb (Glenwood, Ill.; Business) of the softball team, both of whom attained perfect 4.0 GPAs. For the men top honors went to senior Jason Bruscha (Sterling Heights, Mich.; History) and freshman Chris Fecek (Rochester Hills, Mich.; Biology), both members of the cross country team, who tallied GPAs of 3.96. In addition, senior Shelly Aurit (Batavia, Ill.; Psychology/Swimming and Diving), senior Donna McCoy (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; General Studies/Softball), junior Ryan Rzepka (Novi, Mich.; Finance/Soccer), sophomore James Fox (Oslo, Norway; Electrical Engineering/Soccer) and freshman Nicole Piggott (Pewamo, Mich.; Basketball) all attained GPAs over a 3.9.
