Elmhurst, Ill. ???C Based on some impressive play by Oakland???s men???s and women???s golf teams this past weekend, the Golden Grizzlies swept the men???s and women???s Mid-Con golf Athlete of the Week awards the conference announced today. Junior Brian Stuard (Jackson, Mich.) took the award for the men???s team while Mara Mazzoni (Livonia, Mich.) won for the second straight week for the women. She shared her award with Janelle Bush of Western Illinois. Stuard has started the season on fire, winning the Bulldog Fall Invitational in OU's first competition of the year by shooting a two-round score of 137 (69-68, -7) to win by five strokes on Saturday. He wound up that tournament by birdying the final three holes to lift OU to the team win. At the John Piper Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday, he finished second by one stroke, turning in a 54-hole total of 214 (73-69-72, -2), giving him four of his five rounds last week under a 70. He led OU to team wins in both events, helping the team set a school record with its 282 round at the John Piper tournament. Mazzoni continued her strong play to start the fall season, winning the Lady Falcon Invitational on a scorecard playoff after tying for low score with Melissa Sneller of Grand Valley State. Her 36-hole score of 147 lowered her personal best, set last week at the Cardinal Invitational, by four strokes. It was the first tournament win for Mazzoni in her career.
