Bowling Green, Ohio ???C Senior cross country runner
Kristie Kieffer (Sterling Heights, Mich.) won her second consecutive title on Saturday at the Mel Brodt Invitational in Bowling Green with a 5K time of 17:39. Teammate
Melissa Nasers (Battle Creek, Mich.) was close behind to finish in a time of 18:02 taking second place ???C the third straight meet that the duo have finished one-two.
Adam Frezza (Oxford, Mich.) kept the winning ways of the Golden Grizzlies and took first place in the men???s competition with a 25:08 time in the 8K run. Overall, Oakland???s women???s team finished with 96 points and in third place while the men???s team finished in second with 39 points. On the women???s side, Oakland has yet to lose the individual title race during the 2003 season. Both Kieffer and Nasers beat their times last week by more than 17 seconds. The Golden Grizzlies other three scorers all finished the course under 20 minutes and in the top 55 of 144 runners. Freshman
Laura Fisher (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) finished 36th with a time of 19:25 while
Sarah Kane (Sterling Heights, Mich.) placed 41st in 19:34 and
Marissa Montgomery (Livonia, Mich.) ran a time of 19:51 for a 52nd finish. Following Frezza in the footrace were teammates
Jason Bruscha (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and
Luke Williams (Wayland, Mich.) who finished in fifth and sixth place with times of 25:43.27 and 25:43.87. The other final three point finishers for Oakland were
Paul Kulisek (Wonder Lake, Ill.) and
John Cook (St. Clair, Mich.) who ran times of 26:25.21 and 26:25.95 to place 14th and 15th. Both teams are back in action next Friday when they head to East Lansing, Mich. to race in the Spartan Invitational.
