Rochester, Mich. ???C Oakland???s cross country teams kicked off their 2003 seasons this morning by hosting the Motor City Classic at Bloomer Park in Rochester Hills. Both teams turned in solid performances to start the season, with the men???s team placing four runners in the top-10, while the women had six of the first 10 runners to cross the line, including the race winner, Melissa Nasers (Battle Creek, Mich.). Junior Adam Frezza (Oxford, Mich.) led the men???s squad with his second place finish, covering the four-mile course in 20:45, just two second off the pace of winner Bill Monnett???s time of 20:43. Senior Jason Bruscha (Sterling Heights, Mich.) came in third for the Golden Grizzlies in 20:53. Senior Brandon Fisk (Shelby Township, Mich.) and junior John Cook (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) rounded out OU???s top-10 finishers, with Fisk clocking a 21:35 for sixth, while Cook ran a 22:05 to finish eighth. Nasers, a junior, took home top honors in the women???s 5K race, crossing the line in 19:40. Senior Kristie Kieffer (Sterling Heights, Mich.) was right on her heels, taking second in 19:41. Juniors Sarah Kane (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and Kara Coraci (Macomb, Mich.) finished 6-7 for the Golden Grizzlies, with Kane turning in a 20:39 and Coraci clocking a 20:47. Finishing ninth and tenth for OU were senior Andrea Sutter (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and sophomore Amber Nagel (Napoleon, Ohio), with Sutter finishing with a 21:07 and Nagel a 21:13. Both teams will be in action again next Saturday, when they run in the Detroit Invitational in Northville, Mich.
