Oral Roberts Sweeps Top Spots At Mid-Con Golf Championships

Rochester, Mich. ???C Oral Roberts men???s and women???s golf teams held on to their first day leads during the final round of the Mid-Continent Men???s and Women???s Golf Championships hosted by Oakland University. The Eagles men???s team took home their trophy with a 12-stroke win over second place IUPUI, while the women???s squad took an easy 57-stroke win over UMKC. Oakland???s men???s team had a strong final round on its home course, shooting a 299 today to total 899 for the tournament to claim third place. On the women???s side the Golden Grizzlies finished fifth after shooting a final round of 346. Lyle Patterson of ORU won medallist honors for the men, shooting a total score of 214. It was another Golden Eagle who claimed the top spot in the women???s competition, with Candice Satow finishing with a total score of 230, leading an ORU sweep of the top four spots. Oakland???s top finishers were Brian Stuard (Jackson, Mich.) who finished in a tie for second in the men's competition with a 219 (71-79-69), while Mara Mazzoni (Livonia, Mich.) placed fifth for the women with a 241 (78-85-78). Stuard???s final round of 69 tied him for the low round of the day in the men???s competition. Allen Mitchell (Clio, Mich.) also had a top-10 finish for Oakland, coming home with a 77 today for a total of 225 (71-77-77) to place in a tie for seventh. Jonathon Pauli (St. John???s, Mich.) made it three Golden Grizzlies in the top-10 with his 10th place finish, totaling a 227 (77-75-75) for the tournament. Chris King (Walled Lake, Mich.) had a final round of 79 for a total of 234 (79-76-79), matching Ryan Yelen (Grand Blanc, Mich.) who also totaled 234 (82-74-78), with both tying for 24th. Emily Minnich (Geneva, Ind.) matched Mazzoni???s final round of 78 and finished just two strokes behind her at 242 (83-82-78) to finish seventh overall. Jennifer Quinn (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) was next for Oakland with a 257 (83-86-88) to tie for 15th overall. Oakland???s scores were rounded out by Sara Stark (Battle Creek, Mich.) who had a 301 (96-99-106), and Sarah Laird (Farmington Hills, Mich.) who came in with a 305 (97-106-102). Stuard earned first team All-Mid-Con accolades with his second place finish, with Mitchell getting second team honors. For Oakland???s women, both Mazzoni and Minnich were placed on the second team All-Mid-Con list with their top-10 finishes.
