Avon, Ind. ???C Oakland???s men???s and women???s golf teams were both in action at the Butler Spring Invitational this week where the men finished third and the women seventh in an event that was cut short due to weather conditions at the Prestwick Country Club. The men got in 27 holes and finished with a team score of 472 while the women were limited to just 18 holes, coming up with a score of 376. Sophomore Brian Stuard (Jackson, Mich.) led the men???s team with an impressive tie for fourth place finish, firing a 114 (77-37) to finish just two strokes out of second place. Ryan Yelen (Grand Blanc, Mich.) continued his strong play this spring, coming in 12th just behind Stuard with a 116 (78-38). Rounding out the scores for Oakland was senior Allen Mitchell (Clio, Mich.) who tallied a 120 (83-37) and Chris King (Walled Lake, Mich.) and Jonathon Pauli (St. John???s, Mich.) who both came in with scores of 123. On the women???s side junior Mara Mazzoni (Livonia, Mich.) led Oakland with her 18-hole score of 84, good for a tie for 6th place overall and just three strokes off the leaders. Senior Emily Minnich (Geneva, Ind.) was next for the Golden Grizzlies, carding an 88 to tie for 16th. Rounding out the Oakland scores were Jennifer Quinn (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) who finished with a 91, and Kathy Goodvich (Rochester, Mich.) and Melanie Wasser (Grand Blanc, Mich.) who finished at 113 and 116 respectively.
