Swimming and Diving Give the Gift of Life

Oakland University???s swimmers and divers gave more than their best efforts to their coaches on Monday, January 27th. Approximately ten team members headed over to the Winter Blood Drive after their practice that Monday and donated their blood to the American Red Cross. The Winter Blood Drive is one of the annual blood drives that Oakland University hosts and the team felt that it would be a worthwhile cause to go out and give back to the community. Senior Martin Moen (Eugene, Oregon) solicited the blood drive to other team members who were more than willing to give their time and a little of themselves. ???We are always looking for opportunities to do community service,??? commented senior swimmer Shelley Aurit (Batavia, Illinois). ???When Moen suggested we go to the blood drive we were more than willing to get together and help out. It???s for a good cause.??? Oakland swimmers and divers have been giving their all this season. Both teams have been training hard and their hard work has paid off. Both teams won the Mid-Con Championships in December and are now looking to win the National Independent Conference Championships that will take place at Oakland the end of February. The women will be looking to defend their title while the men's team will look to claim their first ever NIC championship. The meet runs from February 26th to March 1st at the OU Aquatics Center.
