Swimming and Diving Split Weekend

Oakland University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished 1-1 this weekend in dual meet action competing against St. Bonaventure University and the University of Pittsburgh. Both teams defeated the Bonnies on Friday evening but fell to the Panthers by scores of 85-152 (men) and 87-156 (women) on Saturday. The men's dual meet record now stands at 7-5 while the women close the weekend at 9-5. Scott Dickens (Ancaster, Ont.) came through for the men's team winning two events in the 100 yard breaststroke (56.27) and 200 yard individual medley (1:51.99). Dickens' time in the 200 IM was the fastest the Grizzlies team and the Mid-Con have seen this season. Andrew Coupland (Ottawa, Ont.) and Chris Sullivan (Rockford, Mich.) also won events for the Grizzlies. Coupland captured the 200 yard freestyle in 1:43.60 while Sullivan continued to dominate the 50 free winning in a time of 20.38. On the women's side, Oksana Strelets (Kazakhstan) was tops in two events. Strelets defeated all competitors in the sprint freestyle events capturing both the 50 and 100 free. Strelets finished the 50 free in a time of 24.16 and the 100 free in 52.48. Newcomer Line Jensen (Denmark) also won an event for the Grizzlies taking the top time in the 200 IM in 2:07.50. Both teams finished the day winning the 200 freestle relay events in the best times either the Grizzlies or the Mid-Con have seen this season. The men's team finished in 1:22.58 while the women completed the event in 1:36.54. Both the men's and women's teams are back in action next weekend when they host Michigan State at 1 p.m. at the OU Aquatics Center on Saturday.
