Oakland Swimming and Diving Teams Crush Kenyon College

Meet Results Oakland University's swimming and diving teams crushed the Lords and Ladies of Kenyon College at the OU Natorium in dual meet action Friday night. Kenyon, who's swimming and diving teams just recently won their 23rd men's and 18th women's NCAA Division III titles, were taken handedly by the Golden Grizzlies with scores of 124-81 (male) and 142-90 (female). On the men's side, OU's sophomore Andrew Coupland (Ottawa, Ont.) won two out of three events swam capturing the 200 free (1:42.48), 200 back (1:53.89), and finishing second in the 200 IM (1:56.70). Chris Sullivan (Rockford, Mich.), also finished tops for Oakland crushing all competition in the sprint freestyle events winning the 50 free with a time of 20.39 and the 100 free in a time of 45.06. Ehud Segal (Givat, Israel) and Tony Smucler (Tecumseh, Ontario) each captured an event for Oakland taking the 200 fly (1:53.32) and 500 free (4:49.31) respectively. Oakland also won both relays - the 200 medley (1:34.48) and 200 free (1:23.14) to help lead the team to their fifth dual meet win this season. Karoline Freytag (Kronach, Germany) won the first individual event for Oakland on the women's side taking the 200 free title in a time of 1:55.51. Sprint freestyle specialist Oksana Strelets (Kazakhstan) won both sprint events taking the title in the 50 free (23.65) and 100 free (51.90). Newcomer Line Johnson swam the top time in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.38 while Tanya Korniyenko (Almaty, Kazakhstan) finished tops in the 200 fly in 2:08.99. Tara Berringer (Eugene, Oregon) won the 200 yard backstroke in a time of 2:10.45 while Danielle Ward (Brighton, Mich.) took the top time in the 500 free in 5:06.98. Mid-Continent Conference's Diver of the Year Linda Keskey (Cokato, Mich.) took both diving events winning the 1-meter board with a score of 252.15 and the 3-meter with 252.60. Oakland also captured the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 1:40.07 to help lead the team to their seventh dual meet victory this season. The women's team is back to action Saturday when they host the RedHawks of Miami University (Ohio) at 2 p.m. while the men resume action next weekend when they host Eastern Michigan on the 18th of January at 1 p.m.
