Oakland University's swimming and diving teams have joined together with the Oakland YMCA Waves Swim Team to host the Ultimate Technique Swim Clinic this Sunday, January 12 from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. What's extraordinary about the event is the special guest who is helping conduct the clinic. Olympic Gold Medalist Janet Evans is attending the event to give a motivational speech, demonstrate the different swimming strokes, and be available for pictures and autographs for anyone attending the clinic. Evans captured the gold meadal in the 400- and 800-meter freestyle and 400-meter individual medley at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and returned in 1992 to win the 800-freestyle event. Among the many awards and accolations received, Evans was rewarded the 1989 Sullivan Award as the nation's outstanding amatuer athlete of the year and the U.S. Olympic Committee's Sportswoman of the Year. The Ultimate Technique Swim Clinic is also being coached by Waves head coach James Collins alongside Oakland University head coach
Pete Hovland. The clinic is open to the first 150 participants at a fee of $55. Each participant will recieve a gift from Speedo, a special gift from Different Strokes and a late lunch with Evans.
