Golden Grizzlies Open Season Hosting Motor City Classic

Women's Results Men's Results The Oakland University men's and women's cross country teams hosted the Motor City Classic Saturday, August 31 to open the 2002 season. The meet was unscored, but both teams finished with five in the top 11. The race was held at Bloomer Park in Rochester Hills. Sophomore Adam Frezza (Oxford/Lake Orion) led the Golden Grizzlies in the four mile race finishing second overall in 21:37. Brandon Fisk (Jr., Shelby Township/Eisenhower), Ryan Bissell (Sr., Vassar/Vassar) and Paul Kulisek (So., Wonder Lake, Illinois/Woodstock) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively in 21:51, 21:57 and 21:59. Rounding off the list of OU runners in the men's race were Matt Nistor (11th/22:26), Gabe Wordell (12th/22:44), Rob Camilleri (22nd/23:55). The women ran a 5K and sophomore Sarah Kane (Sterling Heights/Sterling Heights) led the way for Oakland. Kane finished the 5K race in 19:48 and in third place. Sophomore Melissa Nasers (Battle Creek/Lakeview) cross the finish line in fourth place running a 19:58, while Andrea Sutter (Jr., Sterling Heights/Stevenson), Kim Schultz (Fr., Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and Sarah Drouillard (Fr., Lake Orion/Lake Orion) rounded off the OU runners in the top 10. Sutter finished 7th in 20:54, Schultz was eighth in 21:15 and Drouillard crossed in ninth place after running a 21:22. Wrapping up the list of OU runners in the women's race were Marissa Montgomery (15th/22:36) and Lisa Cianciolo (18th/22:57). The Golden Grizzlies will run next on September 7 at the Tommy Titan Classic. The men will run a four mile race, while the women will run a 5K. The race is hosted by Detroit Mercy and will be held at Cass Benton Park in Northville.
