The Oakland University Athletics Department announced today that Assistant Athletics Director/Communications and Senior Woman Administrator Amy Stabley Hirschman has resigned her current positions to accept the newly created position of Assistant to the Athletic Director at OU. The transition will occur over the next two months and Hirschman will oversee the hiring of her sports information replacement. As the Assistant to the AD, Hirschman will hold an administrative roll that will work with all aspects of the department. She will assist Jack Mehl in all areas of operating an NCAA Division I athletics department. The Royal Oak resident came to Oakland University in June 1997 as the Sports Information Director. She added the responsibilities of Senior Woman Administrator in 1998 and was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Communications in the summer of 2000. At Oakland, Hirschman has handled all of the day-to-day responsibilities of the sports information office and the publicity of all 14 NCAA Division I Golden Grizzly athletic programs. She is also responsible for maintaining the athletic department's website. As the SWA, Hirschman had two sports report to her: women???s tennis and volleyball. Hirschman came to OU from the University of Texas, where she spent five years as an Assistant Sports Information Director. At UT her primary responsibility was handling the publicity efforts for the Longhorn baseball team. Hirschman was the editor of the football game day programs and oversaw the 20-person student SID staff. She served as the media director for NCAA Baseball Regionals in 1993, 1994 and 1996. The 33-year-old native of Mount Pleasant graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor???s degree in journalism in 1991.
