Men's Soccer and Women's Volleyball Lead Golden Grizzlies in Classroom in 2002 Winter Semester

The Oakland University Athletic Department saw 11 of its 14 athletics programs record 3.0 or above team grade point averages in the winter 2002 semester. Leading the way for the men's programs was the soccer team with an overall team gpa of 3.34. The women's volleyball team recorded a 3.21 gpa as a team to guide the female student-athletes. A total of 148 student-athletes representing all 14 varsity teams and all classes have attained the Golden Grizzlies Excellence in Academics honor for the winter 2002 term. The top overall academic performances were recorded by Shelley Aurit (women's swimming, sophomore, psychology) and Matt Connor (men's soccer, sophomore, business administration), both of whom earned a 3.96 grad point average while completing 12 credit hours. Other top academic achievers were Matt Pullen (men's golf, 3.95, business administration), Adam Feinstein (men's cross country, 3.91, biology), Laura Cowham (women's soccer, 3.90, elementary education) and Jasmin MacAlpine (women's basketball, 3.90, elementary education). The minimum criteria for this Golden Grizzlies Excellence in Academics recognition is a term grade point average of 3.0 with a minimum of 12 semester credit hours.
