OU Swimming and Diving Go 1-1 Against Rockets

The Oakland University women's swimming and diving team defeated the Rockets of the University of Toledo by a margin of 165-135 while the men's team fell by a score of 155.50-124.50 on Friday. The win puts Oakland's women's team season dual meet record at 6-2 while the men drop to 4-2 on the season. Danielle Ward (Sr./Brighton, Mich.) won two events for the women Grizzlies capturing both the 200 and 500 free with times of 1:53.40 and 5:05.02. Kazakhstan natives Oksana Strelets and Tanya Kornieynko also came up big for Oakland and won two events apiece. Strelets, a sprint freestyle specialist, won the 50 free in a time of 24.09 and the 100 free in 52.31. Korniyenko took top times in both the 100 and 200 butterfly with times of 58.13 and 2:07.57. Capturing the 200 backstroke was sophomore Tara Berringer (Eugene, Oregon) in a time of 2:10.55 while diver Linda Keskey (Cokato, Mich.) took a first place finish on the one meter diving board with a score of 217.20. Berringer, Korniyenko, Ward and Shelley Aurit (Batavia, Ill.) combined to finish first in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:56.05, setting a new pool record for the University of Toledo. On the men's side, it was freshman Scott Dickens (Ancaster, Ont.) who led the Grizzlies capturing three events and setting a new pool record. Dickens won the 100 breast and set a new Toledo pool record in a time of 56.67. Dickens also captured the 200 breaststroke event in 2:03.72 and took the top time in the 200 individual medley setting a pace of 1:55.59. Also swimming big for Oakland was junior Sean Broadbent (Windsor, Ont.). Broadbent captured both the 50 and 100 freestyle events in times of 21.31 and 46.68. The men's team also captured the 400 yard medley relay in a time of 3:28.37, which was swam by Dickens, Broadbent, Chris Lutz (Rochester, Mich.) and Ehud Segal (Givat Zeev, Israel). The women's swimming and diving team have their next dual meet when they host Eastern Michigan University on November 23rd at 1 p.m. The men's team doesn't see action until the Mid-Con Conference championships which take place at Oakland University from December 5-7.
