West Lafayette, Ind. (Nov. 16, 2002) - Oakland University???s cross country teams completed their seasons this afternoon, competing at the NCAA Great Lakes Region Championships. The Golden Grizzly men finished 16th of 31 teams, while the women finished 21st, also out of 31 squads. Adam Frezza (Oxford, Mich.) was the top finisher on the men???s team, coming home in 60th place out of 210 runners in a time of 32:07.6 over the 10K course. On the women???s side it was Melissa Nassers (Battle Creek, Mich.) who led the way, placing 50th out of 217 competitors with an 8K effort of 22:31.2. Oakland???s men???s squad placed its top three runners in the top 100 to help the Golden Grizzlies to their strong effort. Following Frezza were Paul Kulisek (Wonder Lake, Ill.) and Jason Bruscha (Sterling Heights, Mich.) who finished just five places apart, with Kulisek coming in 73rd in 32:35.8 and Bruscha just behind in 78th with an effort of 32:41.3. Rounding out the scoring places for OU were Brandon Fisk (Shelby Township, Mich.), who turned in a 33:43.6 for 130th and Ryan Bissell (Vassar, Mich.), who finished in 134th with a time of 33:45.8. On the women???s side the Golden Grizzlies also had their second and third finishers closely bunched, with Sarah Drouillard (Lake Orion, Mich.) and Sarah Kane (Sterling Heights, Mich.) taking 105th and 110th respectively. Drouilliard covered the course in a time of 23:33.3, while Kane covered the distance in 23:37.5. Fourth for the Golden Grizzlies was Andrea Sutter (Sterling Heights, Mich.) who turned in a 25:23.4 for 182nd, with Kara Coraci (Macomb, Mich.,) rounding out the top-five for OU, finishing 192nd in a time of 25:38.1.
