Rochester, Mich. - Oakland University's women's cross country team place sixth out of 14 teams yesterday at the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships race at Kensington Park. The Golden Grizzlies finished with a total of 185 points, finishing 58 points behind fifth place Hillsdale College. Sophomore Melissa Nasers (Battle Creek, Mich.) was the top finisher for Oakland, taking home a top-10 finish when she crossed the line in 22:56.4 for eighth place individually in the 6K event. Sarah Kane (Sterling Heights, Mich.) was the next finisher for the Golden Grizzlies, finishing 31st overall with a time of 24:14.5. Sarah Drouillard (Lake Orion, Mich.) was right behind her, finishing in 24:16.1 for a 33rd place showing. The final two scoring runners for OU were also closely bunched, with Kara Coraci (Macomb, Mich.) finishing 60th in 25:37.0, with Kim Schultz (Vermilion, Ohio) close behind in 25:44.9. Oakland also had four other runners in the race, with Amber Nagel (Napoleon, Ohio) turning in a time of 25:58.3, Julie Austin (Rochester Hills, Mich.) a 26:05.9, Andrea Sutter (Sterling Heights, Mich.) a 26:07.3 and Marissa Montgomery (Livonia, Mich.) finishing in 26:42.7. Lisa Cianciolo (Armada, Mich.) competed for the Golden Grizzlies in the 4K race, finishing 48th with a time of 17:48.6.
