Oakland Swimmers Claim Mid-Con Swim Honors

Oakland's men's and women's swimming & diving teams were quite competitive at the Notre Dame Invitational last week, with the men finishing second and the women third. Those solid efforts landed two Golden Grizzly swimmers - Tim Johnson and Tanya Korniyenko - Mid-Con Athlete of the Week honors. Johnson led Oakland with four first-place team and individual finishes at the Notre Dame Invitational. After winning the 100 freestyle in a time of 45.28, he also was a part of the victorious 400 free relay team that beat the Notre Dame Invitational record, and the 200 free relay team that set pool and school records (1:20.30). Johnson posted an NCAA ???B??? time of 1:39.05 in the 200 free, and took home a first place finish in the 800 free relay (6:47.08). Korniyenko earned two individual first-place finishes for Oakland at the Notre Dame Invitational. She posted an NCAA ???B??? time and a school record while earning first place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:02.25. She also won the 100 butterfly in a season-best time of 55.57, which was also an NCAA ???B??? standard.
