Golden Grizzlies Fare Well in Bowling Green Relays

The Oakland University men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened the 2001-02 season at the Bowling Green Tom Stubbs Relays Friday, October 19. The meet was a non-team scored event. The meet opened with diving early in the afternoon and the Golden Grizzly men finished fifth in both one-meter and three-meter diving, while the women finished eighth in three-meter diving. The relay events began later in the afternoon and the women's program recorded eight top three finishes in 10 of the evening's women's relays. Oakland finished first in the 300 backstroke (2:59.00), 200 freestyle (1:37.28) and 400 freestyle (3:33.73), second in the 200 medley (1:49.34), 300 butterfly (2:55.63) and 400 medley (3:57.39) and third in the 800 freestyle (7:52.94) and 1,500 freestyle (15:50.45). The men's team claimed eight spots in the top four. OU finished second in the 1,500 freestyle (14:26.21) and 400 freesyle (3:10.19) relays, third in the 800 freestyle (7:06.56) and 200 freestyle (1:26.77) relays, and fourth in the 200 medley (1:38.26), 300 backstroke (2:45.85), 300 breaststroke (3:05.28) and 400 medley (3:36.35) relays. The OU women's team will host Michigan State next Wednesday, October 24 at the OU Aquatics Center at 6:30 p.m. The men and women will both compete against Wright State on Saturday, November 3 at 12 noon in Rochester.
