Golden Grizzlies Defeated by Michigan State in Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving

The Oakland University men's and women's swimming and diving teams were both defeated by Michigan State University Saturday afternoon in East Lansing. The men were defeated 140-98, while the women lost to the Spartans 137-106. The OU women claimed victories in the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay, while the men were victorious in the 200 free relay. Top performances against the Spartans for the Oakland women came from Danielle Ward who finished first in the 1,000 free (10:15.42), 200 free (1:52.36) and 500 free (4:58.28) and Oksana Strelets who finished first in the 50 free (23.99) and 100 free (51.84). The OU men were led by Dave Hartzel, Andy Schmit and Mark Quinn. Hartzell claimed first place honors in the 200 back (1:53.60), Schmit finished first in the 500 free (4:44.94) and Quinn was first in the 200 breast (2:07.12). The Golden Grizzly men will be in action again January 27 against Eastern Michigan in the OU Aquatics Center (2 p.m.). The OU women will next travel to Columbus, Ohio to face Ohio State February 2 (6 p.m.).
