The Oakland University cross country teams struggled against the humid weather and their competition to come up with a win. The men's team finished sixth overall and second in Division I scoring behind Eastern Michigan University. The women's team finished fourth overall and third in Division I scoring behind Eastern Michigan and Detroit. Leading the way for Oakland in the men's four mile race was Brandon Fisk (Shelby Township/Eisenhower) with a 21st place finish (21:38) and following him in 23rd place was junior Kurt Brinker (China/St. Clair) running a 21:43. Rounding out the top three for the Golden Grizzlies was junior Kevin Donovan (Sterling Heights/Stevenson) with a 36th place finish (22:12). In the women's 5K race, last year's Mid-Continent Conference Freshman of the Year Kristie Kieffer (Sterling Heights/Utica) led the Grizzlies running attack with a sixth place finish (18:44). She was followed by junior Jennifer Kunst (Port Huron/Port Huron) with a 12th place finish (19:36) and senior captain Christina Colombe (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) with a 14th place finish (19:44). Oakland will travel to Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday, September 16 to compete in the Midwest-Collegiate Invitational.
