The Oakland University cross country teams made a very good showing in a large field at the Lakefront Invitational hosted by Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday, September 30. The women's team claimed 13th place out of 46 teams. The men's team finished 15th out of 42 teams. In the women's 6K race, two-time Mid-Continent Conference runner of the week Kristie Kieffer (Sterling Heights/Utica HS) led the Grizzlies running attack with a 10th place finish (21:57). She was followed by junior Jennifer Kunst (Port Huron/Port Huron) in 63rd place (23:28) and senior captain Christina Colombe (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) was third for the Golden Grizzlies with a time of 23:50 (82nd). Leading the way for Oakland in the men's 8K race was Kurt Brinker (China/St.Clair HS) with a time of 26:20 for a 35th-place finish. Brandon Fisk (Shelby Township/Eisenhower) followed him with a 66th-place finish (26:50) and rounding out the top three for the Golden Grizzlies in 81st place was Kevin Donovan (Sterling Heights/Stevenson) with a time of 27:03. Oakland will travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan to take part in the Michigan Intercollegiate October 13, 2000. The Michigan Intercollegiates are hosted by Western Michigan.
